Antibiotic Recall Due to Particulate Matter
Antibiotic Recall Due to Particulate Matter
August 20, 2014
On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported that Cubist Pharmaceuticals is issuing its second recall of Cubicin (daptomycin injection) due to complaints of particulates found in vials.
The particulates were found in nine lots that were distributed between July and December 2013. If in possession of one of these lots, contact the company directly at (855) 534-8309.
This is the second recall in August alone of the drug used to treat skin and blood infections.
A spokeswoman for the drug manufacturer told FDANews that none of the particulate matter found seems to be glass and that they don’t suspect that a manufacturing problem is the cause.
No adverse events have been reported.
